THEME : PEOPLE FROM SOUTHERN PAPARA.
Our ancestors sailed from the islands of the Australes, formerly known as Te anu toetoe no Apatoa. They navigated all the way to Rua roa, their new homeland; today called Papara.
Through our songs, we wish to pay tribute to the unfailing tenacity of our forefathers in the face of nature’s strength and harshness on the Australes’ islands.
Through observing nature, they drew up a lunar calendar keeping up with the rhythm of their everyday life and this up until today. We also pay tribute to their experience in navigation.
Like all the peoples of the Polynesian triangle, they had mastery of knowledge about stars, currents, and winds.
Thanks to this, they berthed in Maha’iatea, a sacred land.
