REO PAPARA – SINGING

THEME: ODE TO THE LAND OF PAPARA

The singing group REO PAPARA presents two themes this year:
The first is a Paripari Fenua / an « Ode to the Earth, » a praise to the historical and legendary places of the great district of Papara.
The Tarava Tahiti brings out the first sub-district of the chiefdom which would bear the name of Faina, whereas the ”Ute paripari” brings into a duel the two other sub-districts with their important places’ names that represent them and thus closes the Paripari of all Papara.
The second theme « te aumata’eina’ara’a » which is sung in the Himene Ruau is a compound word that would translate as « the people of the district and their way of life. »
It highlights the Tiurai period when the districts were preparing for their travels and settling in the capital’s schools as holiday resorts during the festivities. The small stories and anecdotes of this period, as well as the characters who have marked the Puhapa / refuge, are showcased.
