“LA DANSE DES COSTUMES” HOSTED AT THE TAHITI AND HER ISLANDS MUSEUM
From 25 June, the Tahiti and her Islands Museum hosts the 3rd edition of the “la danse des costumes” exhibition (costumes dance).
Mrs. Manouche Lehartel will present the “grands costumes “collection (great costumes) winners of the traditional Heiva songs and dances from 1993. From this date Maison de la Culture forwarded Heiva award-winning costumes to the Museum for conservation and enhancement.
The public will rediscover this collection with additional costumes from winners since 2012 and also from donations from private donators. Besides to award winning costumes, the Tahiti and her Islands Museum will also show older costumes, in particular those of the famous Madeleine Moua group. Over sixty costumes will be staged.
The new layout will highlight the different materials needed to make these masterpieces through a fashion workshop. Audiovisual presentations, guided visits and thematic workshops will accompany this exhibition ending after the Hura Tapairu competition.
This exhibition is also a tribute to the creativity of artisans of the Heiva festival. Beyond a retrospective, it is also an inspiration source for future creators.
