The excellence of craftsmanships
The Heiva Rima’i enters its 29th year of existence, with as much fervor as ever. A champion of handcraft creation in French Polynesia, this fair highlights the excellence of our craftsmen through their multiple expressions. More than a hundred craftsmen will be gathered this year on a topical theme: May the artisanal treasure persist, Ia Täraire noa te faufa’a rima’i. In fact, all the Polynesian know-how is exhibited on this occasion: sculpture on wood, on stone or on bone, jewels, tifaifai, braiding, basket weaving, sewing … These few weeks will allow everyone to discover the wealth and finesse of the creations on display, and to find out the specificities of each archipelago. The religious services open every day, which continues in musical animations and competitions dedicated to each specialty.
This year competitions concern the making of a paddle cover in pae ore, a necklace gifted upon departure and a sculpture on wood, bone or stone. The creators must produce their products on the spot, so visitors can watch the crafting process from start to end and appreciate the mastery of gesture and techniques. Animations, demonstrations and food samplings will also be organized daily: making of craft products, advice on horticulture, demonstrations of massage, etc.
